Having a laptop that they can take to class, study groups, and anywhere else they need to study is very important to their college life.
The question now is where do you find the good laptops for college students? It’s nowhere near as hard as most people make it out to be. It is important to make a list of wants and needs though so that you make sure you get the laptop that will actually work for college. It’s also a good idea to talk to the school where your child will be attending to see if they have any suggestions or requirements.
You also have the option of purchasing a used laptop. You can purchase a used laptop at an extreme discount compared to a new model, but you will have to take care to make sure the laptop has been treated good and doesn’t have any defects or problems that will sneak up shortly after you purchase it. Most local computer stores will be happy to look at a used laptop and give you their expert opinion on if it’s a good deal.
You also have the option of purchasing a new laptop, but paying for it with a portion of your financial aid money. I actually went this route in school and looking back now am very happy that I did. I didn’t have any out of pocket costs and once I graduated and got a high paying job it was easy to pay back the financial aid that I still owed. While this option isn’t for everyone, it is one that should at least be considered.
